Daddy's 50k (31 Miles)

David ran this past Saturday in a 50k ultra trail run.  It was a hot morning, but he did amazing.  It took him about 4 hours to complete and he got first place out of 25 runners.  He ran 31 miles in close to the same time it took him to run his first marathon!

It was a beautiful park and Mommy and the kids enjoyed walking around and playing in the water.  It did start to get hot and humid after a while and Mom was worried about dad running in the hot sun.  When he got to the finish she made sure he drank lots of liquids and then made a banana protein shake for him when they got home.

Exciting News.

We are excited to announce a big change for our family.  Daddy has been offered a new job in Folsom, California working for Intel.  It is a great opportunity and we have decided to accept it.   We have loved living in Minnesota and working for IBM, but we are excited for this new change and opportunity.  We haven't figured out all of the details of our move.  But we would like to get there as soon as we can and keep our family together.   This is a big leap of faith for us because we really are happy in Minnesota.  We feel good about our decision though and hope that our transition is smooth.  We will let you know more as soon as we figure out all of the details.

Daddy lived in Davis, CA for a year before his mission and attended UC Davis.  He loved living in Davis and the Sacramento area.  Now moving back to California, he has finally come full circle. Mommy has never lived in California and is very excited about the warm weather, beaches, and artichokes.  She is also very happy to only be 10 hours away from her family.  :)

Here are some pictures we found online of Folsom.

Our Week...

We had a wonderful visit last week with Oma.  We went on long walks, worked in the garden, and ate delicious Indian and German food (Mommy's favorites).  Dad had to go out of town to work in California for a few days, so it was nice to have her with us.  The kids love her and really missed her when she had to go.  Lily kept asking where Oma was after she left.  Here are some pictures of our time with her.

Sarah also did a research project on Jim Thorpe for her 4th grade class.  They had all of the research boards on display in the gym at her school one afternoon.  We got some cute pictures of her showing it to us.

Saturday Sarah and her fellow Jefferson Joggers finished the last 1.2 miles of 26.2 for the Kids Med City Marathon.  She ran 25 miles over the past 2 months and then fished it by running the last 1.2 with around 500 kids from Rochester area schools.  It was awesome.  She got a medal and some cute pictures with her fellow runners and Mrs. Holcomb the coach.

It was a fun week.

Dave breaks 3 hours!!!

Dave broke a three hour marathon this past weekend.  He ran a 2:52:27 marathon.  He came in 2nd place overall.  This was his best marathon so far and we were really proud of him.  Mommy likes the smaller marathons because Daddy actually has a chance of winning them.  His big prize for winning 2nd place was.......a MUG!!! Wooo Hoooo!!!  No cash prizes here just nice mugs.

We all drove up to St. Cloud, Mn and stayed in a nice hotel over night.  Lily actually went right to bed and slept really good.  That meant that Dad got a good nights rest this time.  We met up with him and cheered him on in the morning along the route and stopped to take pictures.  It was a beautiful race on the Lake Wobegon Trail.  It went through the countryside and along some beautiful lakes.  The trail was an old train track and was nice and flat and paved all the way.    We had a fun time and were so happy for Dave that he beat his goal and did so good.  He works really hard training for his races.

Mommy took the above picture 10 seconds after daddy finished.  She was so caught up in the moment she forgot (again) to take any video or pictures of the actual finish.  With tears in her eyes, she remembered to take this one after he finished.

Dave is still deciding what his new goal will be.  He is planning to run a 50k trail run in about a month, but just for fun not for time.
What do you think his next goal should be?

A. Beat Lance Armstrong's time of a 2:46 marathon.

B. Save up to take the family to watch him run the Boston Marathon.

C. 50 marathons in all 50 states.

D. Other (Post your idea in the comments)
